This is because it is written and not complying with what it stipulates can lead to the employer been sued. An employee has certain rights according to the handbook. Some of the rights include compensation to any employee in case of injuries acquired at the workplace. An employer would be liable to an employee in cases of sexual harassment. The laws ensure that employees are safe from discrimination, either because of sex, race, association or religion (Bush, p 42). Employers cannot discharge a female employee due to pregnancy because this is considered illegal, and the employer can be sued. Employers cannot also fire their employees because of their race, religious affiliation, age, sexual orientation, disability or nationality. It is also considered illegal for an employer to fire an employee for abiding in the set laws of the state. However, in Florida employees are ‘at will’. This means that they may be fired for any reason as long as it is not illegal.
